Understanding the SEND Crisis in British Schools

The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) crisis in British schools refers to the growing challenges that are faced by schools and trusts in adequately supporting children with additional learning needs. Schools are faced with a myriad of issues, which has been recently described as a “ticking timebomb,” by one local councillor.

With severe funding shortfalls faced by local councils, many are stating that they simply do not have the funds to address the current SEND challenges without going into bankruptcy. This challenge has been further exacerbated by teacher shortages, stretching the existing resources even thinner.

How We Can Help Schools With SEND Provision

The SEND crisis is leaving thousands of children without the support they need to learn and thrive, with schools struggling to provide the appropriately qualified staff, and facing delays in EHCP approvals.

At James Ray Recruitment, we believe that every child deserves an education that meets their needs, and that all school jobs we recruit for should have the right qualified applicants. That’s why we’ve partnered with The National College to offer award-winning training and development for our staff.

Our partnership with the National College will give our candidates access to exceptional training to improve their ability to support students with SEND, and help to alleviate some of the pressures faced by schools. With courses covering essential areas such as ADHD, Autism, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties and many more, we can ensure that our candidates are well-prepared to make a meaningful impact in classrooms.
