As a Trainee Mechanical Estimator / Junior Estimator, you will assist in the preparation of cost estimates for mechanical projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical services. Working closely with the senior estimator and project teams, you will help ensure that bids and tenders are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project specifications. This is a learning role with plenty of opportunity for growth and development within the company.

Key Duties:

  • Assist in reviewing project specifications, drawings, and other documents to understand the scope of mechanical works required.
  • Help prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment based on project requirements.
  • Support in obtaining and comparing quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Work with the senior estimator to ensure estimates meet client requirements and project budgets.
  • Assist in preparing tender documents and proposals for submission.
  • Help maintain a database of historical costs and supplier information to support future estimates.
  • Liaise with the procurement and project teams to ensure that estimates align with project timelines and resources.
  • Learn and develop knowledge of mechanical systems, estimating software, and industry practices.
  • Attend site visits when necessary to gather information for estimates.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Interest in mechanical engineering, estimating, or construction.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently when needed.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.

 

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or Construction (e.g., HNC/HND, NVQ).
  • Previous experience or internships in construction, mechanical services, or estimating.
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Trimble, ConQuest) would be advantageous.
