James Ray Recruitment are pleased to be working with a fantastic local school based in Pickering, North Yorkshire. The school fosters a sense of community with a commitment to providing high-quality education and support.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and organised Food Technician to join the team on a temporary basis commencing from October, 4 days a week until December. You will be working alongside the Food Technology Department to support the delivery of practical lessons.

The Food Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the school’s Food Technology lessons. You will be responsible for preparing materials and ingredients, maintaining kitchen equipment, ensuring food hygiene standards are met, and assisting teachers during practical sessions.

Key Duties:

  • Prepare and set up equipment, ingredients, and materials for Food Technology lessons.
  • Ensure all health, safety, and food hygiene standards are strictly adhered to.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen and food preparation areas, equipment, and utensils.
  • Order and manage stock, ensuring the kitchen is well supplied.
  • Assist students and staff during practical lessons, offering support and guidance where needed.
  • Ensure accurate records are kept of all activities, including health and safety compliance.
  • Support teachers with lesson planning and resource preparation.

 

Experience & Key Skills Required:

  • Experience in a similar role, ideally within a school or catering environment.
  • A good understanding of food hygiene standards and health & safety procedures (Food Hygiene certification preferred but not essential).
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Confident in working independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to support and engage with students.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen practices.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the changing needs of the department.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualifications in Food Technology or Catering (e.g., Food Hygiene Certificate, NVQ in Catering).
  • Previous experience working in a school or education setting is an advantage.
