James Ray Recruitment are currently working with a prestigious law firm in Coventry. An opportunity has arisen for a Solicitor/Chartered Legal Executive within the Children and Families Public Law Department, undertaking Care and Child Protection work.
This role would suit someone with at least three years’ post-qualified experience supporting a busy department.

Manage a caseload of child protection maters
Advocacy
Produce accurate detailed work to ensure excellence in legal services
Maintain files and ensure efficient case management of care matters
Draft any documentation in accordance with efficient file management including correspondence, briefs, court documentation, full attendance notes and statements of evidence
Time record in accordance with the Firm’s policy and prepare bills as necessary
Attend to clients at court with counsel
Mentor and support junior members of the department
Undertake work necessary to build up maintain and manage a caseload
Undertake any reasonable instructions made by the Directors or Heads of Departments within the limits of this job description
Attend department meetings as required
Be actively involved in marketing and business development activities

Key Duties:

  • At least three years’ experience working within a Care Department as a Solicitor/Chartered Legal Executive carrying a full caseload of care proceedings
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word and Outlook and good keyboard skills
  • Accredited member of the Law Society’s Children’s Panel is essential
  • Have established a relationship with CAFCASS and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work within quality and case management systems (e.g. Lexcel and Tikit)
  • Dynamic in approach and uses initiative when dealing with clients or potential clients
  • A positive approach to customer service
  • A team player and flexible in approach
  • Ability to deal with sensitive situations and difficult clients in a professional, confidential manner
  • Sufficient knowledge of the legal process to understand the work being undertaken
  • Knowledge of the work of Children and Families Public Law Department and the relevant law
  • Experience of public funding procedures would be advantageous
  • Driving licence and use of own vehicle preferable but ability to travel between offices, courts and stakeholder office essential
